More than a Starter Home: Progress story

7/05/2012 04:15:00 AM

Just got back from a site visit here and its coming along well. Most of the furniture were in, frames and mirrors were hung, just some more cleaning and decorating, and I'll be soon showing the big reveal. :)

But before that, here is the progress that went on...

BEFORE
MID-PROJECT
Moved the door to the middle for better flow. Not yet the final color since we changed it to a more subdued hue.

BEFORE
ALMOST DONE
Now this is the color we ended up with. The stair rails, balusters, and steps were stripped to bare wood to give a very rustic / coastal charm. We wanted a beachy, fun, and glam look. :)

BEFORE
Now this is where the most dramatic change occurred, the kitchen. As you can see, that is the only allotted space for the kitchen, if you can even consider it that. There's no space for a fridge, not even a stove!
MID-PROJECT
The dead space on the right which was an unused "outdoor" area was converted to be part of the kitchen. We built an island to create a bit of a separation, and to add a much needed work / storage space.
ALMOST DONE
Here's the island that worked as extra dining space for guest. For a small space, you got to maximized and make every inch functional.  From a non-working kitchen, to a very functional and spacious space to make food and entertain.

BEFORE
This was the master bath.. nothing so mastery about it. Very old marble walls, non-working aluminum sliding doors...
MID-PROJECT
We tore everything apart. Put up new tiles, fixtures, etc. Love the bathroom now, can't wait to show you!

BEFORE
Master bedroom
MID-PROJECT
Painted the walls a calm taupe shade. A silky black-out curtains will be installed tomorrow. A tufted bed, photo art, custom desk, mirror, will come in and this will truly be a master bedroom.

I've got more to show you, one my fave is the powder room. Just don't have the photos now, but it also got a 360 turn around.

Oh and the yellow tufted sofa goodness is here...

Imagine this...
In yellow, with gold studs! Yummy....

  1. the house looks a lot like our unit except the stairs are in the middle. been reading your whole site for the past two days. i love that you always come up with something really nice but affordable and "achievable" for homemakers/non-designers. i think i found our future interior designer. your decorating style is so me! it will be a long time before we can buy our own house but for now, i'll keep checking this blog and get tips from you. :)
