Love it or Hate it: White Floors

6/27/2011 04:21:00 AM

We recently installed a white laminate flooring for Food Stylist's Office, and I love it! It suits the space really well, and it makes the room light and airy. But my love affair with white floors didn't start there, it began when I first laid my eyes on a crisp looking floor while surfing the net. So I may sound like I'm talking about the guy of my dreams here, pardon me, I just tend to exaggerate sometimes for literary purposes. Haha...

It is quite obvious that my answer to this post title is "Love it."

Can you blame me? Look at all these gorgeousness....

Hello??  They're pretty awesome. But the point of this post is more of "Can you live with white floors, or not?" It might not always be pretty once you start the real life living and walking all over this pureness and dirt manage to find its way to bring you back to reality where floors will be messy.

For the office I did, it will be mostly used by two women which I'm sure can keep their floor looking pristine. But how about the rest of us who live with a lot of boys (ME!) who doesn't care about aesthetics, or those who have kids that makes their home as a playground. Is white still beautiful then?

So, White Wood Floors -- Love it (I can't wait to have it) or Hate it (no way I can keep it) ?

  1. I love the look of them. But oh.....to keep them that white every day I think would be impossible. Although it was pointed out to me if there is any huge terrible accident that occurs or somehow they get so dirty you can't get them clean....you just paint more white paint on top. Love the look but I don't think it would work for me living with my dogs.

  2. I also love the way white floors look! I am a single gal so it's hard for me to imagine living with a big family that tracks around dirt and whatnot, but for some reason I feel as though keeping white floors clean wouldn't be as impossible as it seems. I'm especially drawn to white floors that have been painted over beautiful, old, worn and grooved wood that would maintain a texture and depth despite the whitewash. Maybe I'm delusional but I think dirt would not jump out at you on a floor like that.

  6. Love it for the look, hate it for how impossible it is to keep clean! We have a hallway floor and staircase painted white and are the EVER hard to keep looking nice. Could be the two kids and golden retriever but I won't be giving them up anytime soon so I guess the white floors will have to go!

  7. love it. i wanted a crazy shiny white laminate floor and my husband freaked (we have two little kids) and made me try it on one section of our kitchen for a few weeks. i had to let go of that idea. but i couldn't let go of the idea and finally tracked down a gray washed ash flooring. we just finished it yesterday and i can't stop looking at it. it's light and airy, but there is so much pattern and so many knot holes - it's going to be impossible for the kids to kill it (cross our fingers). i usually don't post of blogs - but this post was so timely and my sister just pointed me your way and i love your work. okay, i'll be coming back to blogstalk - good stuff.

  8. I think we're all in agreement that we love white floors, but afraid of the fact that it's a pain to keep it spotless! hahaha...

@Nita, oh white floors + dogs = nightmare. haha

@Christina, I love your imagination. A whitewashed old wood is definitely chic! I would love to do that someday!

@Irine and kat, thank you! :)

@Meg, yep, easier to give up a white floor! haha

@Becky, at least you've got to try them out first and made an informed decision. I'm sure your ash grey flooring is fabulous. Thanks for blogstalking.. :)
