Looking back and looking forward (and some house planning)

I've started this blog three years ago because we're doing some much needed update on our old flooded house. I'm not planning on ever doing this professionally since well, this is just a hobby, and I never thought someone would hire an advertising graduate to do their home. Boy was I wrong. My hobby evolved into something that I honestly believe I'll do for a living for a long long time. If you know me, that's a big word to say. In the 6 or so jobs I had years ago, the longest I've sticked to one is around 8 months. 8 long months. Haha. Some were just a month stint. You get the point, I get bored easily. I wanna try new things. Or maybe I just haven't found what I really wanted then.

This career path was found by accident. I was just enjoying blogging some of our house renos when some asked me if I could help them with their space. I was shocked. Me? Really? What did you see in this blog? Our striped wall? Our wall gallery? My not so nice bedroom? Like what? I mean it's fine, but I sincerely believe that it doesn't warrant an inquiry. I'm so grateful that they trusted me even before I trusted myself. And now I'm in this head on. Those few people who gave me their trust started it all. Thank you. (I'm looking at you Gigi and Shar :)  )

I've learned quite a lot the past 3 years I've been doing this. It's not always easy. Never will it be. But it's always worth it once you see how your clients love their new space. Not everyone is the same, some clients will be like a friend with all the chikahan, and some are more like your mom who wants to be in every detail, both are fine. I love my friends and I love my mom. Haha... Some people know exactly what they want and some have no clue. In the end you just have to deliver something that you believe they will love.

Oh and this blog. Well it started smooth sailing and I've been posting quite regularly on the first year. I have lots of DIYs to share then! Then actual projects started rolling in and lets just say that this blog has taken the back seat. No scratch that. It's in the trunk! Of a rarely used rotting car! haha..
You can see how much dedicated I am the first year. I've changed the look 4 times in the span of a year or so. Maybe I just have a lot of free time then? And reading back, I realized I used to be funny. Haha.. But no seriously, my casual relaxed tone became sort of generic and I hated it. I don't know why. Maybe because I've been posting half-heartedly just to get it over with. Don't get me wrong, I still love this little piece of the worldwideweb I got, but with so much going on, it's the last thing on my mind. I've had quite a handful of finished project that I haven't even shared yet, shameful.

I've made quite a few statements such as "I'll post more often", "I'll share the reveal soon" and so on. Guess what? Never happened. So I won't make any promises now. I'm just hoping that when we get started on our own place, things will start rolling in naturally for this blog. You know, my own diary of how the heck we're actually building a house. Exciting times. But of course, I'll still do my usual post of my projects, take photos of finished projects and share them here, and someday soon, lots of DIYs to share here again. That's all adhered to the word "hopefully." I'll try my best. This blog is my baby. I've neglected my baby. Bad bad parenting. So maybe it's high time we started reconnecting again and cradle it and give it my much needed attention?

Speaking of house, I want it. If you've been reading this blog for a while now, you know my life long obsession of owning my very own house. Well who doesn't want one anyway. But with this line of work, I see and completed lots of home for other people, and to say I'm jealous is an understatement. I want to be my own client, to design a space for me. I want the challenge to create a nice creative space within our budget, something that I'll be proud of. I know I told you that we're building an industrial house, cement and all, to keep the cost down. But for some unforeseen circumstances, we needed to keep the cost down even more. You see, we're originally planning on taking a small loan to build one, but that's not an option right now so we're doing this with all the money we've saved up. ALL. Which isn't a lot by the way. So every cent counts. With that in mind, we came up with a loose plan. Hint: shipping container. :) :) It's not unheard of but not widely used as a residence here in the Philippines. But it can be done. It was done a lot of times internationally (I did my research) and I'm sure we can do it as well. Fingers crossed. Can't wait to share it once we've smoothen out the plan and if the budget permits the plan. Here's hoping. Haha

That's my peg. White walls since it will not have the high ceiling I'm dreaming of. Lots of natural wood, vintage leathers, accent brick walls, subway tiles, big industrial windows, and colors thrown here and there. Hay.....

Anyway, Duodeco follows house, as we're planning to dedicate one whole floor as the showroom. I'm excited on what's to come for that. We have lots on our mind that we needed to create and share. So once we've got the house, we've got the showroom. That would make me super happy, and probably broke. Haha.. But it's fine. We can save up again, at least we don't have a loan to pay with ridiculous interest!

So that's me looking back and looking forward to 2014. How about you? What's your plan? Let's all stay positive and attract all the blessings we can get. With much hard work of course, but it can be done. I know it. I'm claiming it. You should too!
