Upstairs "bath" update

12/10/2010 02:41:00 AM

Upstairs toilet might be the appropriate term, there's still no working shower!

BUT it has come a long way! You can see images of our house in this humiliating post before our ongoing makeover, including this eeeky bathroom toilet.

Now, we're more than halfway done with this teeny space.

From this...

To this...
The only things new here are paint, curtain, border, artwork, and sink.

PAINT:
I really want to make this bathroom feminine, so I kinda went crazy at first and painted it HOT PINK.
Oh my gawd, I literally felt dizzy the first minute in all that hot pinkness!  The first thing I did the next day was repaint the whole thing. Mixed this hot pink with white, added a little black, and I got this greyish pinkish lilac. Now I can breath.

CURTAIN:
I've got a lot of this fabric since I used it as curtains in my previous clothing shop. I'm sure this is not the last time you'll see that print in our house. You gotta use what you have right? Thank goodness its pretty.

BORDER:
Its too boring with just paint. Solution? DIYed border.

Bought the print from Ross from my recent US vacation. How I love that store! These are from a package with more than 100 pieces of various prints. Real pretty. $6. For more than a hundred 1ftx1ft. Yes.

Cut it into 4" width (used 4 sheets), and glued it to the wall. Covered it with another layer of glue, and sprayed clear acrylic focusing on the shower area.

ARTWORK:
You can see here what I did with my easy pop art.

Our tiles are still old, chipped, and gross.
New tiles are not part of the budget, so gotta live with that. But I have some ideas on how to make them look less past their expiration date.

Oh and finally, a working sink! Thank you very much.

STILL TO DO:
  1. "fix" tiles
  2. install shower and shower curtains
  3. put up the mirror
  4. tray/stand for stuff over the toilet and beside the sink
I'm hoping to finish this all up soon, but for now, I'm happy I can pee around prettiness. ha!

COST:
Paint - P250 (around $6)
Curtain - free
Border - $6 with lots of extras for other projects!
Artwork - P132 (around $3)
Sink - P1200 from Wilcon (around $28)

TOTAL for now  P1832 around $43 :)

  6. You sweet girl, oh man, how you deserve that little bit of pink. I couldn't be more thrilled with how it turned out. For what you had to work with, and having to stay with a MINIMAL budget, you did good girl, VERY GOOD.

You are to sweet, I can imagine the smile on your face EVERY TIME you go to pee now.

You know what would look super cute, for those messed up tiles. Adding some shiny glass pebbles in the cracks, and putting grout in between. It would look like you wanted it to be like that, and I think if you can get a good deal on some kind of pebbles, OR any other kind of cheap COLORFUL tile, you can break up, and turn into a mosaic of sorts you will have solved your BOOHOO, into a Major WOOHOO, for REALLY CHEAP.

Let me know what you think girl. :)

  7. Thank you so much! The final pictures for this bathroom will be up soon! Almost done :) I actually do smile a lot now while peeing. haha!

Thanks for your great suggestions! Though what I did is simpler and not as creative as your ideas!

  8. Hi elle. I'm from the PI too and will be a homeowner soon so I have been prepping up for some renovations at our new home {you know how things are here when it comes to housing}. I wonder what brand of glue did you used on those borders and how its holding so far {with the moist, since its in the toilet}. hope to hear from you.

  9. Oh hi Tara, finally a fellow blogger from PI! :) I just used elmers glue for the border, though I can't attest to how durable it will be since I haven't used the bathroom to shower. But I think it will be solved by putting a couple coats of polyurethane, and just touch up the paint above the border. I'll be doing that soon once we'll be doing our showers here. :) (though take note the poly tends to make it a bit yellowish) Do test it first just to be sure if you'll like the outcome. Thanks!

  11. I thought of that too, but I'm afraid it will peel off easily since this is a bathroom. Thanks for the suggestion, and for dropping by :)
