What's up house? The kitchen & living/dining room special.

12/29/2010 12:27:00 AM

I'm utterly completely aware that I've been talking non-stop about our on-going home makeover. Can you blame me? This chaos has been going on for months! But as the song goes, there's a rainbow always after the rain. --assuming you're a Filipino and you know that song. If not, well just carry on. Or look it up, it's actually quite good.  :)

So for the sake of less talking, and more showing, here are some "durings" for you all.

THE KITCHEN
I didn't realize that the new lime color looks exactly like the peeling paint color before. What can I say, I like the color. Painted everything white and lime, and installed a faux roman shade. It doesn't go down, it's stitched that way! I just wanted something soft and pretty without covering the window. Next in line: 1) cabinet doors below the counters 2) more cheap DIY art on blank wall 3) ORGANIZE.

KITCHEN (RIGHT SIDE)
I asked for a new cabinet for a much needed storage! Everything will be painted white, and the bottom cabinet lime.

DINING SPACE

White house. Someone told me that we should call our house that. I don't mind. ;)
MY SOON-TO-BE PROJECTS (for dining space alone!): 1) Subtle stripe on that far wall. 2) decoupage dining table 3) refinish the chairs 4) DIY artwork on blank wall 5) DIY chandelier

LIVING SPACE
Let's play a game shall we? It's called imagine with Elle. My mind's gonna explode I need to share my ideas to people who actually care about decor. (my family's great and love that we're gonna have a better space, but blabbering decor ideas to them is well, not a great idea.) So onto the game...

The one wall that extends from the living to the dining space will have a subtle stripe, just to add a little depth and interest. Can you see that great mirror / table on the before picture? It has an amazing ornate detail. I'll paint it a bright color. Aquamarine maybe. Can you visualize that pop of color on a subtle stripe wall?? I CAN! :) The couch will be slipcovered with a charcoal or navy fabric, and bright throw pillows everywhere! Sheer light grey curtains will hang full height of the wall. And oh, we're gonna have a black door. So have you pictured my grand plan? I truly truly hope I can do it all! Suggestions very much welcome.

Did I say "for the sake of less talking"? Who am I kidding.

  1. I commend you for surviving amid the chaos! I'm curious, will any bits of culture from your surroundings make it into your home :)? I try to incorporate little bits of my culture in my home, but my mom keeps all the good stuff.

  2. My room is pretty much done, so I can hide here when I can't take the chaos anymore. haha.. :)
We don't have much of "cultural" stuff, so I'm not sure if you'll see a lot of it. Though maybe its because we're actually living here in our country. I'm sure if I live elsewhere, I'd would have reminders of home in my.. well.. home. :)

  3. You have such an interesting space to work with. I love the bright colors you are selecting - starting with the green in your kitchen. The mirror table piece is stunning and will look so fresh in a modern color. P.S. I put your free calendar link in my sidebar. Blessings, Kim

  4. I love the white walls! It really made dramatic changes to your living room. I am glad you are keeping that mirror. I am on the hunt for those kind lately but it seems the available and affordable ones {if there is, its beyond my budget}are mass produced. I can imagine what you were planning! and it was such a great idea. I think the I saw the subtle stripes at Lettered Cottage. And it is a great wall idea! Keep it up, Ms. Elle. And thank you for the reply on my inquiry on borders. Have a Blessed 2011.

Thanks Tara! I also love the white too. And yes, I have no idea where to find great cheap furniture here in PI. Its either super expensive or really cheap looking. Even japan surplus furniture is expensive! hahaha.

    Happy New Year! :)

  6. Girl, you are doing an incredible job, EVERYTHING is coming along beautifully. How much longer till everything is expected to be done? I can't wait to see all the afters and if we lived close to each other, I would love nothing more than to come help you decorate, redoing your whole house is like a dream come true, so much fun. I only wish I could REDO so much in my home. :)

    Thanks Elle!!!!

  7. Bella, oh it will be a long road ahead to finish everything! Major renos are done, but the whole decorating and completing the whole look (painting stripe wall, painting furnitures, accessories, drapery etc) is all in a kinda very distant future, considering that I'll probably do it on my own without much help! haha :D as for me, I can't wait to have my very own house to decorate. (this is our family home)

  8. I am so impressed! I know I'm just a stranger on the other side of the world, but you are amazing and so creative. I have lots of little projects that need to be accomplished and I'm inspired by your decorating on a dime. :) Way to go. P.S. I just printed out my February calendar (running out of ink, so until more comes I was doing one month at a time) and it's lovely.
