My bedroom reveal (and a LOT of mishaps along the way)
2/04/2011 03:00:00 AM
WARNING: This post is not your typical "woohoo look at my room" reveal. It's more like I kinda screwed up and this is where I'm at now.
Remember this room from our "before" house tour?
This used to be the boy's room which I hijacked from them. Here's the room now:
Definitely a lot better, but it's doesn't scream my name. I want my room to call out to me! The problem all started when I didn't follow my moodboard while shopping for curtain fabrics. I got distracted and took home this tropical vintage fabric. It's pretty, and I still love the print, but not for the bedroom.
There's no way I could incorporate fun and bright accents (which I soo love) without clashing with the drape, so I'll be changing it to a more neutral one. (as originally planned! why oh why do I get easily distracted anyway??)
,
This is the other side of the room:
Which is where my home office is today. Supposedly that is! I almost always work on the bed, unless I really need to use a mouse. Yeah, I even do some design work lying down. Bad habit I tell you!
I painted the air-conditioner the same color as the walls, but it still sticks out! I wish there are better ways to hide those. |
This area is now dubbed the "lonely place" 'cos I rarely sit there. And it doesn't normally look this neat, this is where stuff pile up most of the time! So that table will soon move out, and will be replaced with a secretary desk that I can shut close if needed -probably all the time! I already bought an old one that I will refinish, if only I know what color to paint that thing!
Now this is what I love about my new bedroom:
The closets! I now have three big ones as opposed to one. I only had one closet before, and it's always overflowing even after I organized and removed unwanted stuff. Though it's still a mess behind those closed doors, at least I've got the space to work with.
I have big plans (but definitely on a budget) for this bedroom. My madeover bedroom will experience yet another makeover. Which I will of course share as it progress. I can't wait! Gawd how come all this decorating is soo tiring?
Here's another before and after for you. Or I guess before and 'almost' is the appropriate term.
Bid this bedroom goodbye, 'cos you'll not recognized it when I'm done! (That's the spirit Elle! Now go and get to work!)

I'm hitting up my bedroom hard, too. I know how you feel, somehow it's hard to get your bedroom to feel like "you" all the way through. I finally have a mood board, fabric, and inspiration to work from for my bedroom, can't wait to make it all happen!
ReplyDeleteEven though your room isn't complete, you've done an amazing job so far! It's a great space, the result is so tidy and cozy!
Oh good for you! I'm also back to creating yet another moodboard for this space. Though now I've lived in this space and I pretty much know what I want. I hope it works this time around! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Van!
I think it looks great- quite the transformation. My bedroom (and actually living room, too) is painted a very similar light gray/blue and it is so calming...it's also a great background for almost any accent!
ReplyDeletethat is some transformation there...how long did it take you finish the project?
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing when fabric shopping, it's hard not to be tempted! Love the transformation of your dressing table, it's so happy now..
ReplyDeleteHi Elle! Did you get your fabric from Kamuning? I was just there yesterday and I was eyeing on that fabric to make into pillow case for my outdoor seating. Have a good time shopping for your new curtain fabric!
ReplyDeleteI really DO love the turquoise dressing table. I would showcase that with lots of white a spot of yellow. You have great things to work with. How would it look with the drapes pushed back and natural woven shades?

Amazing! I love all the changes. While it is off, you can hide you air-conditioner with a painting or with a "trilage" (I don' t have idea how it calls in english... is a piece made of cross woods, very used in gardens por climbing plants, that you can paint in the same color of the wall). Hope it helps you!

PS: Sorry if I made a mistake, my english isn' t very good :)
I am new at stalking your blog. My opinion probably means nothing to you, but I would paint your secretary yellow. Maybe a mustard yellow. I think that it would sweet and you seem to be the type of person who would not be scared to do something awesome like that.
ReplyDeleteYour room looks great!
Elle, I saw your "before and after" on design*sponge and have now been through your entire blog! I love watching the transformation -- and all your amazing work is making me a little more brave to tackle some projects of my own! It's all looking really great! (I have used a lot of exclamation points, but oh, well, I'm enthusiastic, I guess.)

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited to work on this room, again! :)
ReplyDelete@Brite, yeah I love the soothing wall colors.
@Brolitz, it's quite a long process. I just took one project at a time.
@Anna Marie and Classic causal home, I love the vanity as well! That would be my current favorite color! :)
@Irene, the fabric is of course from Divi :)
@Romina, thanks for your suggestion! I'll keep that in mind.
@Elizabeth, I thought of painting it yellow as well! Though I'm 50/50 with painting it grey with yellow accents. We'll see. :)
@Jenny, aww thank you so much. It means a lot to me to know that some people actually go though the entire blog, haha :) Really thank you!

ReplyDeletehi! i hope you could feature a diy makeover for a plastic drawer...my drawer is kinda old and i don't have enough money to replace it...i really want to paint it but i cannot find a paint that can be used for plastics....any suggestions?
